About the Scatter Backup

This tool uses Shamir's secret sharing scheme to combine shards of your backup. None of your information is ever sent to a server.

1. Scan your QR codes

   For the safety of your sensitive information, make sure your internet is disconnected.

   Scan as many shards as is necessary to restore your backup.

2. Combine your shards

   Make sure nobody else can see your screen.

3. Restore your wallet

   If you need to copy your secret information, write it onto a piece of paper.

   Follow your cryptocurrency wallet's instructions for restoring a backup from a recovery phrase or private key.

   After restoring your wallet, destroy the piece of paper that you wrote your secret information onto.

   If you are just testing if your backup works, follow the remaining steps on the backup page.

4. Show some love

5. Cleanup

   If you used a QR scanning app, clear its history of recent scans.
